Occupational therapy supports participation in daily life by addressing skills and supports that help individuals engage meaningfully in home, school, work, and community activities. Areas of focus may include:
Cognitive Skills – attention, memory, sequencing, problem-solving, and executive functioning
Visual–Motor Integration – hand–eye coordination to support play, learning, and functional tasks
Sensorimotor Skills – processing sensory information and producing coordinated motor responses
Fine Motor Skills – handwriting, grasp patterns, finger dexterity, wrist and forearm control, and hand strength
Gross Motor Skills – balance, body coordination, strength, endurance, and motor planning
Self-Care Tasks – dressing, bathing, toileting, grooming, and self-feeding
Self-Sufficiency & Daily Living Skills – skills for greater independence such as meal preparation, grocery shopping, chores, using technology, and navigating the community
Self-Regulation & Executive Functioning – attention, emotional regulation, coping strategies, sensory processing, and flexible thinking
Developmental Play & Social Participation – play skills, interaction, communication, and relationship-building in ways that respect neurodivergent identities
Intervention is individualized, strengths-based, and adapted to each person’s sensory profile, communication style, developmental stage, and personal goals.
Who Benefits from Occupational Therapy?
Occupational therapy services benefit individuals of all ages and abilities, including children, adolescents, and adults. OT can support those who experience differences or challenges with participation, regulation, motor skills, sensory processing, or daily living tasks.
Rather than focusing on “fixing” behaviors, our neurodiversity-affirming approach emphasizes understanding each individual’s nervous system, supporting access needs, and building tools for self-advocacy and confidence.
Conditions Commonly Supported by Occupational Therapy
According to the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), individuals with the following conditions or experiences may benefit from occupational therapy:
Sensory processing differences
Autism and other neurodevelopmental differences
Developmental delays

Traumatic injuries (including brain or spinal cord injury)
Orthopedic injuries or post-surgical recovery
Chronic health conditions (such as cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, juvenile arthritis)

Getting Started
If you believe your child—or you yourself—may benefit from occupational therapy, we invite you to request an initial consultation. Occupational therapy services are typically initiated following an evaluation or referral from a pediatrician, primary care provider, or other qualified professional.
Frequency and duration of therapy are determined collaboratively, based on individual needs, goals, and assessment findings.
Please submit a message through our Contact page to request an initial consultation.
Movement Resolutions offers occupational therapy to people of all abilities who reside on the island of Maui.
Every opportunity to work with our clients is a privilege to be a part of their growth and/or recovery process.
